My name is Rajlakshmi 'Raj' Purkayastha and I am a Senior Scientist at Oxis Energy. We are at the forefront of cutting edge battery technology, developing next-generation Lithium Sulfur batteries.

I am leading the Modelling and Data Analytics Department at OXIS Energy. Our aim is to develop models that can predict the behavior of these cells under several operating conditions. Concurrently, we develop tools that automate data analytics to help the rest of the company make informed decisions at a rapid pace.

I obtained my PhD from the Materials Department at the University of California, Santa Barbara, under the supervision of Professor Robert McMeeking. My doctoral studies were an investigation of the micromechanical behaviour of lithium ion batteries. We developed a couple stress-diffusion model for lithium ion storage particles within the battery and was then extended to develop a model for the entire battery system.

I was born and raised in Mumbai, India. I went to university there as well, at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay where I received my Bachelors in Technology degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science.

In this website I describe a few of my research activities, interests and how you can get in touch with me.
